One Client for Every Version#
Mensury runs on one modern Minecraft core.
Launch the latest stable release once, then join supported multiplayer servers from 1.7 to the latest release. You do not need a separate Mensury install for every server version.
Multiplayer version compatibility is powered by ViaFabricPlus, an open-source project by the ViaVersion team.
How it works#
Mensury always starts on the latest stable Minecraft version.
When you connect to an older supported multiplayer server, the client uses the matching network protocol and applies the compatibility changes needed for that server. You can then move to another supported version without returning to the launcher.
Your Mensury setup stays in one place:
- one installation
- one set of client settings
- no relaunch between supported multiplayer versions
The server still determines which gameplay rules and features are available. Version compatibility does not turn an older server into the latest version or guarantee support for every server-side modification.
One setup instead of several profiles#
The usual approach is to keep several game installations and relaunch whenever a server expects a different version. That also splits settings, resource packs, and client configuration between profiles.
Mensury keeps the client on one current codebase. Older multiplayer compatibility is handled when you connect, so the rest of the client does not have to be maintained as several separate products.
In practice, this means:
- client settings stay together
- Mensury features use the same interface across servers
- fixes and new features target one current client codebase
- you spend less time managing profiles before joining a server
Why singleplayer is different#
Singleplayer worlds run on the latest stable Minecraft version.
Opening a local world starts both the Minecraft client and an integrated server. Multiplayer protocol translation cannot change the actual world version, blocks, entities, or game data used by that integrated server.
The distinction is simple:
- multiplayer: connect to supported server versions from the current client
- singleplayer: play on the current Minecraft version
Back up a world before opening it on a newer Minecraft release. Mensury does not provide version downgrades for singleplayer worlds.
Choosing a server version#
For most servers, the compatible version can be selected automatically. A manual version selector is available when a server requires a specific protocol or automatic detection is not the right choice.
Changing the target version affects multiplayer compatibility. It does not replace the server's plugins, restore removed client content, or make every modern client feature behave exactly as it did in an older Minecraft release.
If a particular server behaves incorrectly, try the exact version recommended by that server before reporting a compatibility problem.
